About Us

Masjid
Al-Mumin

A masjid of prayer, Islamic education, and brotherhood, clinging to the Qur'an and Sunnah upon the understanding of the Salaf al-Salih, the righteous predecessors of this Ummah.

Allāh Subḥānahu wa Ta'ālā says:

"The mosques of Allāh are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allāh and the Last Day and establish prayer and give zakāh and do not fear except Allāh, for it is expected that those will be of the rightly guided."
— At-Tawbah 9:18

Our Story

Masjid Al-Mumin is one of the earliest masajid established in Los Angeles. The building itself dates back to 1903, originally constructed as a two-story house, and was converted into a masjid in 1980. Since then, it has served as a place of prayer, learning, and community for the Muslims of Los Angeles.

Over the decades, the masjid has earned a reputation that reaches well beyond California. Through its historical ties to the Gulf region, and through the leadership of the late Shaykh Abu Mujaahid Fareed Abdullah رحمه الله, who taught here for over twenty years, the masjid became known to students of knowledge across the United States and abroad.

Today

Masjid Al-Mumin continues that mission under the leadership of our imam, Ibn Al-Farooq, a dear friend and close student of Shaykh Fareed رحمه الله. The two first met as students at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, and that friendship continued for the rest of the Shaykh's life.

Imam Ibn Al-Farooq served as Associate Imam alongside him for many years, and today carries that legacy forward as Lead Imam, overseeing all Islamic affairs of the masjid, delivering the Friday khutbahs, and teaching regular classes for both adults and children. May Allāh preserve him and make him a benefit to this Ummah.

Alongside the daily prayers, we run a weekend Islamic school for children, adult classes, community and family events, and ongoing programs to serve our community.

We ask Allāh to grant us sincerity in our deeds and to make every effort a Sadaqah Jariyah, a continuous charity that benefits this Ummah in this life and the hereafter.

"Built upon the Qur'an and the Sunnah with the understanding of the righteous predecessors."
